ISL EX-STUDENTS RENOVATE BASKETBALL COURTS FOR ALMA MATER

Old students of the International School, University of Lagos (ISL), on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, officially unveiled the newly overhauled Basketball Courts A and B of the School.

The project was sponsored by ISL old students who are ex-athletes under the tutelage of Coach Ernest Ijeoma. The renovation project was borne out of the desire to give back to their alma mater by improving its sports infrastructure, with a view to improving the sporting experience as well as inspiring current and future generations.

Led by the duo of Olakale Lipede and Abayomi Ajowele, the project was also targeted at deepening ISL’s competitive edge especially in secondary schools’ sports.

The Chairman, UNILAG Sports Council, Professor Afolabi Leshi who represented the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OONFAS, at the event, commended the old students for their love and commitment to their alma mater as exemplified by their goodwill and large heart which brought about the gesture.

Prof. Leshi also applauded the entire management, teachers and students of I.S.L. for maintaining a track record of all-round excellence. He described the newly renovated basketball courts as one which would inspire current students and give I.S.L. an edge in winning hosting rights for basketball competitions.

In his welcome remarks, the School Principal, Mr. Kolawole Amusan, described the event as a fulfilling moment for the ISL management especially in view of its commitment to ensuring a pleasurable learning experience for its students.

Mr. Amusan was full of gratitude to the former student-athletes for their positive disposition to the school as evident in their constant support via various programmes and projects in I.S.L.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the formal commissioning of the ISL Basketball Courts A & B by Prof. Afolabi Leshi.

The event also featured a novelty game between the ISL Squad led by Lawal Fuhad and the ISL All-Stars which also had on board, Kareem Joseph who currently plays with the National Basketball Team, D’ Tigers. The game ended in favour of the ISL All-Stars.

“I love my job and am very thankful for the opportunity that I have to seek purpose and help others find theirs in a global company. None of this would have been possible without the foundation of leadership I was given as a class prefect over multiple years in my JSS/SS sojourns, and as the Headboy of the class of 99 graduating set. The educational rigor prepared me for my undergraduate & postgraduate degrees in Engineering, Business and Education, and the exposure to inter school academic/sport competitions/social clubs prepared me for handling increasing levels of leadership responsibility” I’m a proud alumnus of ISL.
